As the whole nation gears up for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the people of Northeast India are urging for a wave of change and development in the region.
Development in the remotest northeast region has always been a matter of concern. A hint of optimism prevails in the region, no matter which government comes into power.
Many are of the view that an effective government should be formed keeping in mind the problems and the need of the poor and other needy people.
Poverty is widespread in the country. It is a predominant concern that needs to be taken care of in the most holistic manner. However, the youths of the region also pointed out various other issues like employment opportunities that they expect the new government to work upon.
"Whichever government is formed, it should work for the development of Tripura. More industries should be introduced in the state so that the problem like unemployment is solved," said Pranab Sarkar, one of the residents of the Northeast.
In Jorhat district of Assam, many first-time voters have geared up to exercise their right franchise in the ensuing polls. The first time voters expressed their excitement over the casting their votes as they will now become a crucial factor in the formation of the new government.
One such first time voter, Ipshita Kakoti said: "I will be casting the vote for the first time. I am super excited about it. I will be a part of forming the government."
In reply to a question, she said: "I would want the government to focus on girls' education and equality for all. They should focus on health issues and I expect from the government that equality should be maintained."
The Election Commission of India has announced the date for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, which are scheduled to be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
