The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday downplayed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation as party convener, saying there's nothing new as the latter had taken a similar stand last month.

"Arvind Kejriwal had tendered his resignation on February 26 from the convener's post, which was unanimously rejected by the national executive. Arvind Kejriwal had then accepted the decision of the national executive but did not put forward his views on the matter," said party spokesperson Ashutosh.

"After he had become chief minister, he had offered to resign from the post of the national convener again, as he had said that he already had a lot of responsibilities," he added.

Kejriwal had earlier resigned as the convener, saying he was not in a position to do justice to both posts, including that of chief minister.

Kejriwal's resignation came hours before the AAP's national executive meeting.
