A research has revealed an entire range of malware related to Syria that make use of techniques like sophisticated social engineering tricks are infecting the computer systems of internet users.
A research conducted by Kaspersky Lab showed that Syrian malware relies intensively on social engineering and leveraging trust in order to achieve rapid propagation and infection. Ghareeb Saad, Senior Security Researcher, Global Research and Analysis Team at Kaspersky Lab said that a combination of techniques like, social engineering, rapid app development and remote administration tools for taking over the victim's entire system has made the threat serious, reported Enterprise Innovation.
The attacks by Syrian malware are expected to continue and evolve both in quality and quantity, the report said. It can only be fought off by a careful inspection of all suspicious links, double-checking downloads and having a reliable and comprehensive security system installed on your system.
The Syrian Electronic Army, a group of hackers, has attacked high-profile organizations, including many media resources in the past.
The research showed that the malware can be disguised in numerous ways including, fake antivirus scanners, social messaging apps, Trojan-embedded legitimate system utilities, downloads in social networks and free public file-sharing services.
