Clarkson University has concluded in its latest research that carry-on bags can speed up the plane's boarding process.

School of Business Professor John Milne and engineering student Alexander Kelly have come up with the brilliant idea to make boarding easier for passengers.

Delay in take-off results in money-loss to the airline. However, getting people to board the flight quickly can save both time and energy.

In order to find the best way to speed up the boarding process, the professor-student duo ran thousands of simulated airline boardings through a computer model, the Cnet reported.

According to the pair, each row of planes with three seats on either side of the aisle can be filled by one passenger carrying no bags, one with only one bag, and one carrying two bags, ensuring even distribution of luggage.

Storing the carry-ons in an orderly manner is said to speed up the boarding process by 3 per cent.

Airlines can save up to 10 million dollars a year by speeding up the boarding process, for time is of essence in the airline sector.
