United States President Barack Obama has said that he has the power to increase military operations against Islamic State militant group in Iraq and Syria without the authorization of the U.S. Congress.
According to the BBC, Obama would still seek Congress's approval in arming Syrian opposition forces.
President Obama would give a speech describing his anti-IS plans on Wednesday.
A spokesman said that the President has discussed the issue with leaders from both the parties at the White House which proved to be productive.
The meeting with Congress leaders took place one year after lawmakers had blocked his strategy of missile strikes in Syria.
Obama also said that he would continue 'extensive consultation' with the leaders.
