President Barack Obama had "never considered" replacing Vice President Joe Biden with Hillary Clinton during 2012 election campaign, an official said.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney responded to the reports in the forthcoming book "Double Down", saying that if the idea had been brought to Obama, he would have laughed it out of the room, Politico reports.

Journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann wrote in their book that the Obama team conducted focus groups and polling in late 2011 to determine whether a switch would give them a political advantage.
