United States President Barack Obama is expected to announce a modified plan on troop withdrawal in Afghanistan in order to help the nation's new dispensation fight the Taliban and other insurgent groups.

As part of his government's emerging national security strategy, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had urged Obama to consider some flexibility in his plans to reduce the number of non-combat U.S. troops from 10,000 to 5,500 by year's end, reported Fox News.

He is also expected to make his case personally when he visits Washington from Sunday through Tuesday.

The White House admitted on Friday that Ghani and Obama had discussed the issue three time in the last four months and that the U.S. military officials had presented some recommendations to Obama's team, keeping in view Ghani's concerns.

Jeff Eggers, the National Security Council's senior director for Afghanistan and Pakistan, said that Obama will make an announcement on the issue on Tuesday post meeting Ghani in Washington.

Eggers however, added that no decisions have been made yet.

Obama pulled the plug on America's combat mission in Afghanistan in December 2014, officially ending his country's 13-year war in the country.
