President Barack Obama has warned Iran that the United States would be prepared to launch a military strike if it developed a nuclear threat.

He said that Iran's nuclear ambitions were far larger issue for America than Syria's chemical weapons.

According to the Mirror, he said Iran should not be comforted by the U.S.'s failure to launch a strike against Syria.

In a TV interview with ABC, Obama revealed he had exchanged letters with new Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, but gave no details.

Obama rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin's claim that Syrian rebels had carried out the chemical weapons attack on August 21.

He however added that Putin had played an important role in securing a deal over Syria's gas stockpiles.
