One of the men accused of plotting a terrorist attack in Sydney was reportedly rejected by the Australian Army.
Islamic State (IS) supporters Omar Al-Kutobi, 24, and Mohammad Kiad, 25, had intended to carry out attacks in the city on Tuesday.
According to News.com.au, Al-Kutobi's father, Ahmad, has revealed to Fairfax that his son applied to join the Australian Army about two years ago.
However, his application was rejected by the army saying he needed more time before they would consider taking him on.
The duo was arrested in the western Sydney suburb of Fairfield in anti-terror raids by police over an alleged terror plot linked with Islamic State (IS).
According to News.com.au, raids were carried out by NSW Police and Australian Federal Police at a house in Fairfield.
Police confirmed that a hunting knife, a machete, a flag representing IS and a video showing a man talking about launching a terror attack, were seized in the raid.
Deputy Commissioner Burn said that the men were in full swing with their preparations and "consistent with IS messages".
