The opposition on Monday reiterated its demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement on the conversion issue, forcing the Rajya Sabha to hold repeated adjournments, as the House failed to conduct legislative business for the sixth day.

Earlier in the day, Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav had alleged that the government had backtracked on its promises on the issues of black money and unemployment.

Yadav also accused the government and Prime Minister Modi of being silent on the religious conversions issue, with Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechury, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav and Trinamool Congress leader Derek O' Brien also accusing the Centre of the same charge.

During the session, members of the opposition parties trooped into the well, displaying placards and raising slogans to bring back the black money. After the opposition refused to back down, despite repeated appeals by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien was forced to adjourn the House.
