Questioning the credibility of the NDA Government, Congress leader P.C. Chacko on Sunday said the latter should give ex-servicemen in writing that pre-maturely retired army persons will have the same benefit like others under the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme announced yesterday.

"We don't need a certificate for the Congress Party from the Prime Minister. In principle, the decision (OROP) was taken by the UPA Government. This government is only following up what we have done," Chacko told ANI.

"The Prime Minister is saying today that the opposition is misleading. Let the Prime Minister give them in writing that the pre-maturely retired army persons will have the same benefit... The government's credibility is at its lowest level," he added.

"The government discussed eight points yesterday, and the veterans say that seven points were rejected. Let the Prime Minister answer them. May be, they want to make it the propaganda in the Bihar elections, so they have said they have implemented it," he further said.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi said people were being misguided about the VRS policy and added that the applied scheme would benefit all the sections of the defence forces.

"Many people are trying to do politics. Those who didn't do anything for 40 years, have no right to speak on behalf of jawans," Prime Minister Modi said, while inaugurating the Badarpur-Faridabad Metro Line in Faridabad Sports Complex.
