OROP implementation before Diwali, says Parrikar

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday said the notification on One Rank One Pension (OROP) will be issued before Diwali.

"Notification on OROP will be issued once Election Commission (EC) code in Bihar polls gets over. I will try to issue notification before Diwali," Parrikar said at a Naval Commanders Conference here.

Earlier, Parikar had said that there are "technical difficulties" in implementing the scheme but had insisted that government will fulfil the "assurance" made to the ex-servicemen in this regard.

Asserting that NDA government was committed to implementing OROP, Parrikar had said it was working to fulfil the long-pending demand of the ex-servicemen.

The ex-servicemen on Sunday in a letter signed in blood asked Narendra Modi for early implementation of the 'One Rank One Pension' (OROP) scheme. The veterans also said that the announcement made by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on September 5 regarding the implementation of OROP had "seven serious shortcomings".

The letter accused Parrikar of "changing the goalpost" every now and then.

The veterans have asked the Prime Minister to issue notification to implement OROP scheme at the earliest. Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement spokesperson Col (retd) Anil Kaul said the letter was signed in blood by around 200 general officers and others.
