After the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) overwhelming victory in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Assembly polls, and the Congress failing to score on its alliance with the Samajwadi Party, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said their fight to win people's heart would continue.

Gandhi said in a series of tweets, "Our fight continues and will not end till we win the hearts & minds of people."

"To all Congress workers across India: We stand resolute & committed to our values & our belief in an India united in strength & purpose"

"I thank everyone in Punjab for their immense faith and support. This is a mandate for a brighter future for Punjab and it's youth"

Rahul also congratulated Punjab Congress supremo Capt. Amarinder Singh, who won the Patiala assembly seat and under who, the party has taken a lead over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

"My heartiest congratulations to Capt Amarinder Singhji & all our party workers who worked tirelessly @capt_amarinder"

He also congratulated the (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the wins in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

"I congratulate Shri. Narendra Modi and the BJP on their victory in Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand," he tweeted.

The trends in Punjab assembly election show the Congress leading with 76 seats, the AAP leading in 23 seats and the BJP's alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leading in 18 seats.

Meanwhile, the trends in Uttar Pradesh show the BJP leading in 316 seats, the Congress leading in 11 seats, the Samajwadi Party leading in 65 seats while Mayawati-led Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) ahead in 18 seats.
