Over 100 reconverted to Sikhism in Amritsar

Around 120 people from 15 families were re-converted to Sikhism from Christianity in a 'ghar wapsi' event in Amritsar.

The families, who originally belonged to the Mazhabi Sikh community, were lured into Christianity.

"We were lured into Christianity by saying that if we convert all our sorrows and worries will disappear, and ghosts would stay away. We are uneducated so we changed our religion then," said Raj Kumar, who was known as Raj Masih, before his conversion.

Reportedly, the conversion function was organised by Dharma Jagran Manch, a body associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), after people expressed their desire to return to Sikh faith.

Many have accused that these conversions are done forcefully but Kumar said no one forced him to change his religion.

Meanwhile, a Christian priest Father Dominic Emmanuel said the ones involved in forced conversions are not going succeed in their task.

"By doing these kinds of things they are only trying to break the unity in this country. This country, in which people have lived in peace and harmony for 2000 years with people of all religions, these people are trying to break that unity and harmony," he said.
