Oz may host US PGA Championship 'sometime in next decade'

Australia will reportedly have a chance to host one of the biggest events in golf if the debatable plans to play the US PGA Championship outside the United States come to fruition.

The US PGA tournament, which is the fourth Major of every year and will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2016, may reportedly be played outside the United States sometime in the next decade.

According to News.com.au, this would give Australia's best courses, like the Royal Melbourne who will host the World Cup in November, a chance to host the tournament in the future.

However, US PGA chief executive Pete Bevacqua said that the exercise is only an analysis currently, adding that it would become a fait accompli only if they had the cooperation of a number of other groups.

With venues and television commitments already secured through to 2019, the earliest an international venue could be considered is 2020, the report added.
