Pak Army confirms rescuing kidnapped Sindh chief justice's son

The Pakistan Army has claimed that it has rescued the kidnapped son of Sindh Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah from his Taliban captors and reunited him with his family.

Owais Shah, the son of Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, returned home Tuesday, 29 days after being kidnapped from outside a supermarket in Karachi on June 21.

The spokesman of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt.Gen.Asim Bajwa, said Owais was found on Tuesday in the backseat of a car in a town bordering the northwestern tribal areas. He was bound in chains with his mouth taped shut and wearing an all-enveloping burqa to hide his identity.

Chief JUstice confirmed the news of the return of his son from captivity. He said that he received a call from Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif at 3 a.m. in the morning in which said that arrangements were being made to transport Owais back to Karachi.

Lt. Gen.Bajwa said that three "terrorists" were killed during the rescue operation, and added that the kidnappers belonged to a splinter faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

He also told reporters the operation took place at approximately 2 a.m. near the town of Tank, when the kidnappers were transporting Shah, possibly with a view to transferring him to Afghanistan.

He said check points were set up on roads leading in all directions upon exiting the city.

Tank, a town in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on the border with the South Waziristan tribal area, is approximately 885 kilometers north of Karachi.
