A Pakistan-born man, who was arrested in April for preparing acts of terrorism, has been jailed in the United Kingdom, according to a weekly newspaper, Eastern Eye.

The 22-year-old Mubashir Jamil was entrapped by an undercover agent, whom he had told he wanted to wear a suicide vest and "press the button".

He was arrested before he could leave the country for Turkey.

"If you or some brother you know can put an explosive belt on me and tell me how to press, as soon as possible for security reasons, I can do something in the UK even tomorrow after I find a good target," he told the undercover officer, using the name of Abu Hasan.

The Old Bailey Court in London ruled that a part of Jamil's six-year-long sentence will be served in a secure hospital as the court was told he was suffering from a mental illness. It was also told that Jamil fell prey to the online IS propaganda and became obsessed with the idea of martyrdom.

Judge Peter Rook said his crime was only "in part" explained by his mental health disorder and described him as "dangerous".

Jamil had moved to Luton from Pakistan with his family when he was a two-year-old.
