An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Tuesday granted bail to former senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Malir district in Pakistan, Rao Anwar in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

The ATC also directed him to pay Rs1 million in bail bonds, reported Geo TV.

According to the report, Anwar said that he will reveal who 'framed' him in the murder case when the time comes.

"I will tell all when the time is right. Today, it has been proven that I am innocent. The case neither names those who picked up Naqeebullah nor those who killed him," the report quoted Anwar, as saying while addressing the media after the hearing.

The ATC resumed hearing of Anwar's bail plea last week and had reserved its verdict on July 5.

He is an accused in the extra-judicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud.

Anwar and other officers are in the dock for killing at least four men, during what they claimed was a raid on a suspected Taliban hideout in Karachi.

Relatives of Naqeebullah from South Waziristan tribal district rejected claims of him having militant links and maintained that he was an aspiring model who had been a resident of Karachi since 2008.

They added that Naqeebullah was looking for a job and had been running a shop in the city.

His killing evoked a national outcry in Pakistan and triggered protest rallies in several cities.
