Pak court allows 'unwell' Sharif to leave hearing

Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday was allowed to leave by the Accountability Court of Islamabad, along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz, as the former was "not feeling well".

Earlier on Wednesday, Sharif, Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd.) Muhammad Safdar appeared in the court for hearing in the Flagship Investment and Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption references, labelled against Sharif and his family.

The court then granted the plea to Sharif, who said that he was feeling unwell and allowed him to leave early. However, Captain Safdar remained in the courtroom, Samaa TV reported.

After Sharif and Maryam left the court, their counsel, Khawaja Harris said that his client sought the exemption during the previous hearing as well, as his condition was not good.

On Monday, Sharif was allowed to leave the accountability court after being told that he was unwell.

Last month, the Pakistan Supreme Court had disqualified Sharif from the post of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party chief, saying all the decisions made by him as head of the party stand null and void.

It also disqualified Sharif as the prime minister last year, after an inquiry into the 2016 Panama Papers which linked his family to offshore companies.

The cases pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd and London's Avenfield properties.
