Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists for the successful test of 'Agni 5' missile and further strengthening India's defence capabilities.

"I congratulate @DRDO_India scientists for the successful test of Agni-V missile, and further strengthening India's defence capabilities," Parrikar tweeted.

President Pranab Mukherjee also congratulated the DRDO and said the test firing of the missile would enhance India's strategic and deterrence capabilities.

The Strategic Forces Command (SFC) coming under the Nuclear Command Authority (NCA) will be responsible for the management and administration of the Agni 5.

The SFC is responsible for the management and the administration of country's tactical and strategic nuclear weapons and their launch systems. India has declared itself as the 'No First Use' nation.

The test firing of the missile is the fourth developmental and second canisterised trial of the long range missile.

While the first test was conducted on April 19, 2012, the second test was carried out on September 15, 2013, and the third on January 31, 2015 from the same base.
