PCB chairman warns cricket will be 'ruined' if ICC 'goes after money' in proposed changes

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohammad Zaka Ashraf has warned that cricket will be ruined if ICC 'goes after money' in the proposed changes.

Pakistan, along with Sri Lanka and South Africa, has sought time to consider radical changes to the ICC proposal by the rich boards of India, England and Australia, for which the world cricket governing body delayed any decision on reforms in its recent meeting.

According to The Dawn, Ashraf said he mentioned in the ICC meeting that the board needs to make clear whether it wants to go after money or focus on the game, adding that there will be money only if there is enough cricket for every member country.

The report mentioned that the proposed changes give more powers to the 'Big Three', who toned down the proposals in an attempt to seize power in the ICC meeting this week.

The ICC Executive Board has provisionally approved a five-member executive committee and a five-member finance and commercial affairs committee including members from India, England and Australia and two others from the ICC board.

The ICC executive also rejected promotion and relegation among the 10 Test-playing countries, much to the relief of lowly ranked Bangladesh, which initially was with Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka, the report added.
