Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has indicated that Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq could be assigned a directorial role with the cricket board post his retirement.

Shaharyar said the cricket board is in favour of utilising his services once Misbah retires from the game by giving him a key position in the board set-up.

"Obviously, we just cannot afford to overlook the tremendous services rendered by Misbah. He is a well-educated, honourable, decent man. We would definitely want to make use of his knowledge and could appoint him as Director Cricket, just like ECB has made [former captain] Andrew Strauss as Director of England Cricket [in 2015]," Shaharyar said in an exclusive conversation with the Dawn.

"I believe Misbah deserves this sort of recognition for the services he has rendered for Pakistan," the PCB chairman insisted.

Misbah will be leading Pakistan in the upcoming three-match Test series against West Indies beginning April 22 in Barbados.

Misbah, who will turn 43 in May, had earlier asked the PCB for time to decide on his future following whitewash defeats in his last two series against Australia and New Zealand, respectively.

He has been at the receiving end towards the late end of his career. However, leaving the 0-2 thrashing against New Zealand, followed by 0-3 whitewash against Australia, the 42-year-old has been the shining star for the side.

He also inspired Pakistan to the top of the ICC Test team rankings for the first time in history. Although their stint at the top was short-lived as India replaced them.
