Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius had reportedly wanted to buy five extra firearms before he shot and killed his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year.

Pistorius, who is currently on trial charged with Steenkamp's murder, had applied for gun licenses from South Africa's National Firearms Centre three weeks before Steenkamp was shot to death.

According to the Daily Star, the supplier of the Blade Runner, Sean Rens said that an assault rifle, a Smith and Wesson revolver and three shotguns were on the athlete's wish list, and the court mentioned that the alleged murder weapon, a 9mm Parabellum pistol, had a valid license.

However, the court added that the licence applications for the other guns were not processed and were instead sent back to the Paralympian four days after Steenkamp's death.

Rens also said Pistorius drew his gun and went into 'combat mode' months before the killing after hearing a strange noise at his home in Pretoria, which turned out to be a washing machine, adding that the double amputee runner had 'a great love and enthusiasm' for guns.

Rens further told the North Gauteng High Court that he met Pistorius in May 2012, weeks before the athlete made history by becoming the first Paralympian to compete in the able-bodied Olympics at London 2012.
