Michel Platini has confirmed that he will be running to replace Sepp Blatter as the FIFA president in next February's election.
The 60-year-old, who is currently acting as the UEFA president, gained the backing of four continental confederations to succeed the Swiss as the president of football's governing body.
Platini, the former France international, said that it was a very personal and carefully considered decision, adding that he weighed up the future of football alongside his own future, the BBC reported.
The election for the appointment of new FIFA president will take place on 26 February, with Sepp Blatter standing down amidst a corruption crisis engulfing the football's governing body.
Platini was re-elected as the UEFA president for a third term in March after he stood unopposed.
