Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the passing away of former Goa and Maharashtra Governor Mohammed Fazal.
PM Modi also recalled Fazal's contribution to public life and prayed that his soul rests in peace.
Fazal, 92, passed away this morning at his residence in Abu Bakrpur in Allahabad. He has three sons and a daughter. He was suffering from low blood pressure and congestion in the chest for past couple of days and also suffered from short term memory loss.
Born on July 2, 1922, Fazal had studied at the University of Allahabad, the London School of Economics and the University of London.
He was the senior-most member of the Planning Commission during 1980-85, and took up his first his first gubernatorial assignment in 1999 and became the Governor of Goa.
He took over as the Governor of Maharashtra in 2002 and held the office till 2004.
