Hours after ex-Congress president Sonia Gandhi expressed confidence over numbers ahead of the trust vote, the Opposition on Wednesday hit out at the former stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the confidence of people.

"Congress had shown similar kind of arrogance during Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji's tenure and they had to face the consequences. Indians have elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader and he has their confidence. We are ready to face them," Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan told ANI.

Resonating similar views, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav opined that the Opposition does not have numbers, but has people who will "tell others how the government has be-fooled the nation."

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi earlier in the day said that Congress is confident and not worried about numbers ahead of the trust vote.

The statement from UPA Chief today came after the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan accepted a no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition against the Narendra Modi led-government.

Mahajan said that the Lower House will hold discussions on no-confidence motion during the entire course of the day on Friday.

Voting will take place on the same day and there will be no Question Hour on that day.

On a related note, a notice for a no-trust motion needs the support of at least 50 MPs.
