Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay here on Saturday.
"PM @narendramodi met Bhutan PM @tsheringtobgay," Prime Minister's Office tweeted.
Prime Minister Modi, who reached Ahmedabad earlier this evening to attend Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015, was received by Gujarat Governor O.P. Kohli and Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.
The Prime Minister of Bhutan, who is presently on a nine-day official visit to India, will also call on President Pranab Mukherjee and meet several cabinet ministers in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Tobgay will also visit Varanasi and Bodh Gaya.
The visit will impart further content and momentum to the close partnership between India and Bhutan.
Diplomatic relations between India and Bhutan were established in 1968 with the appointment of a resident representative of India in Thimphu.
The updated India-Bhutan friendship treaty not only reflects the contemporary nature of the relationship but also lays the foundation for their future development in the 21st century.
Amongst others, the treaty provides for perpetual peace and friendship, free trade and commerce, and equal justice to each other's citizens.
The traditionally unique bilateral relations, characterized by trust and understanding have matured over the years.
