PM Modi presents Buddhist relics replicas to Chinese President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented replicas of a stone casket of Buddhist relics and a stone

statue of Lord Buddha to President Xi Jinping.

"PM @narendramodi presented President Xi Jinping replicas of a stone casket of Buddhist relics and a stone statue of Lord Buddha," the

Prime Minister's official twitter account said.

"They were excavated from a 3rd -4th century AD Stupa at Dev-ni-Mori - a site 80 kms east of Vadnagar, Gujarat - in 1957," it added.

"PM also presented archaeological drawings of excavations at Vadnagar which was one of the places visited by great Chinese traveller

Xuanzang," it further said.

Prime Minister Modi, who is currently on a three-day visit to China, earlier held summit-level talks with President Xi in Xi'an.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi appreciated the Chinese leader for warmly receiving him outside Beijing.

President Xi in turn, recalled his visit to Ahmedabad in September last year where he was warmly received by Prime Minister Modi. The

Chinese President said he was glad to receive Prime Minister Modi in his home town.

Prime Minister Modi also visited the terracotta warriors and a Xian pagoda connected to Xuanzang, also known as Tripitaka, the monk who

bought the Buddhist sutras to China from India thousands of years ago.
