Commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), security and strategic affairs expert C Uday Bhaskar said here on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was able to convey the image of a global leader with a global vision.

Terming the Prime Minister Modi's UNGA speech a 'very impressive debut', Bhaskar said, "He projected the image of a global leader. After Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi, it is Prime Minister Modi who has been able to convey this image of a global leader. For the first time you have an Indian leader who is providing a vision, a global vision and it is also a very positive vision."

"Since Nawaz Sharif had referred to Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi's reply was just right for a forum like UNGA. He exposed the inadequacies and the invalidity of Nawaz Sharif's formulation. He made it clear that certain countries like Pakistan are continuing to support terrorism and terrorist groups and also nurturing terrorists," Bhaskar added.

Bhaskar further said that the Prime Minister reminded the global community that there cannot be double standards like a so called division between the 'good terrorist' and a 'bad terrorist'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Saturday urged member countries of the United Nations (UN) to make the organisation more democratic and participative.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called for collective efforts of all the nations to combat terrorism and urged the UNGA to pass the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism treaty.

However, Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav told ANI, "I think that Manmohan Singh's and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speeches were more or less the same.
