PM Modi scoffs at Lalu, says he insulted 'Yaduvanshi' community

Taking a jibe at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's beef remark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the former has insulted the entire 'Yaduvanshi' community.

"The Yaduvanshis in Gujarat brought the white revolution in the country. They made Gujarat a centre of white revolution by following the tradition of cow-keeping (Gau palak) of lord Krishna, but a leader (Lalu) here doesn't know what all he ate. He has insulted the Yadav community by commenting about what they eat," Prime Minister Modi said while addressing a rally here.

"Lalu ji, elections come and go but don't forget that these Yaduvanshi people stayed with you and helped you to reach the helm of power," he added.

Prime Minister Modi further blamed Lalu for leveling false allegations against Yaduvanshis.

"The serious offence that he has alleged against the Yaduvanshis has defamed the entire community, and it is an insult to Bihar," he added.

Prime Minister Modi also said that this election in Bihar was between the 'jungle raj' and 'vikas raj', saying no one wanted the 'jungle raj' again.

Amid outrage over the lynching of a man in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, following rumours that he and his family were storing and eating beef, Lalu had earlier stoked a controversy by saying that Hindus also eat beef and accused the BJP of "communalising" the issue.

"Poor people eat meat to beat their hunger. Those who go outside (the country) eat beef. Even Hindus eat beef. There is no difference between beef and goat meat," he said.

With just three days remaining for the campaigning for phase one to conclude, leaders from all political parties are making all attempts to woo the voters in the state.

Campaigning for this phase will end at 5 pm on Saturday. Polling for this phase will be held on October 12.

Meanwhile, today is the last date of filing of nominations for the third phase of the assembly polls. Polling for this phase will be held on October 28.
