Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday thanked Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff for his kind words on yoga and said that the spirit with which Brasilia joined the International Yoga Day celebrations is appreciable.

Prime Minister Modi took to twitter to share this message.

"Thank you President Rousseff for the kind words on Yoga and #YogaDay.

The spirit with which Brazil joined Yoga Day is appreciable. @dilmabr," he tweeted.

"We must take forward the enthusiasm seen during #YogaDay and inspire people to make Yoga a key part of their daily lives. @dilmabr," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dubbed the first International Yoga Day as the beginning of a new era of peace and goodwill, thanking all those who have contributed to the development of the great discipline.

Dressed in all-white and a tricolour scarf, Prime Minister Modi performed a variety of poses yesterday, including the Vajrasan and Padmasan, at the Rajpath where an estimated 40,000 people participated in the celebrations.

The idea of celebrating the International Yoga Day was pitched by Prime Minister Modi at the United Nations General Assembly last year.
