Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will hand over keys of over 8,000 houses built for slum dwellers at Dhanas village in Chandigarh on Saturday.
These houses with all modern amenities have been built under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) of Union Government with a cost of over Rs. 2400 crore.
This is the first major effort by Chandigarh Administration to make the city slum free.
About 25,000 slum dwellers will be resettled in resettlement colonies within the next few years.
