Agra Police has confirmed the recovery of bodies of a British couple from a hotel.
Police said that they suspect the deaths to be a case of drug overdose, as several bottles of cough syrups, strips of sleeping pills and anti-depressants were found lying next to the bodies on their bed.
They have been identified as James Oliver Gaskell (28) and Alexandra Nichola Louise Gaskell (24).
"The British couple did not open the door of the room, the hotel manager informed us about it. We found pills around the bodies. The couple was also undergoing treatment as we have recovered prescriptions. The couple had also vomited and the bodies will now be sent for postmortem and then we can give further details on the matter," said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sulabh Mathur.
The police was informed when there was no response from couple's room.
Hotel manager Jagdish Gupta said the couple had arrived in the hotel a day before they were found dead.
"They had ordered food but they did not eat and after that they went to sleep in their room. In the morning when till 11a.m. to 12 p.m. they did not open the door, a hotel staff knocked their door and when he peeped through the window, he came to inform us of the incident," said Gupta.
The investigation into the matter is on and the British Commission has also been informed.
