Hailing the BJP's unprecedented electoral performance in Haryana and Maharashtra, party president Amit Shah on Sunday said the results reflect that the people of the country have accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their 'undisputed' leader.

Terming the BJP's victory in both the states as 'historic', Shah also made it clear that the Chief Ministers in both the states would be from the BJP.

"This is a victory of the people of Haryana and Maharashtra. The credit for the victory also goes to our party workers. These results prove that people of India have accepted PM Modi as their 'undisputed' leader," Shah said at a press conference here.

He added that the BJP would now strive to provide a government in both states that live up to the expectations of the people.

"These were the biggest elections since the Lok Sabha elections and the BJP has gained an unprecedented victory in both the states. People have reposed their faith in Narendra Modi's leadership and now it's our responsibility to provide such a government that lives up to the peoples' aspirations," said Shah.

Shah also said that the BJP's mission of a 'Congress-free India' was now on track.

"The Congress is not even in a position to get the Leader of Opposition post in these states. The Congress has slid down to number three in both the states. Our mission of Congress-free India has moved two steps ahead," he added.

With the ball firmly in BJP's court as far as government formation in Maharashtra was concerned, Shah kept both the NCP and Shiv Sena guessing and said that everything will be clear in a few hours.

"We never tried to break relations and alliance with Shiv Sena. BJP will decide its internal affairs," he added.

The BJP has delivered its best ever performance in both Haryana and Maharashtra, but has not yet disclosed its Chief Ministerial candidates.
