Pradhan Mantri Vikas Yojna an effort to bridge the gap between employment and employability : Sunil Arora

Sunil Arora, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has said that the Pradhan Mantri Vikas Yojna 2015 is the workmanship of the government and industry working in tandem on the gigantic task of building the human capital which in turn will build India.

Addressing the CII National Conference and Annual Session 2015, Arora said that the PMVY was about the effort to bridge the gap between employment and employability, and added that certification by National Skill Development Council and ITIs has to be aligned with the National Skill Quality Framework.

he further stated that the National Skill and Entrepreneurship Policy 2015 focusses on scaling up vocational training that will offer several career options and encourage entrepreneurship skill. He however pointed out that the functioning of ITIs, private and government will be improved.

Arora also said that a great deal of convergence is required at the intra-government level, between ministerial departments at the central and state levels. Convergence, he said, is also required between industry and academia. However, the industry captains, pointed out that the Government's recognition of issues and efforts in overcoming the shortcomings on these fronts is apparent and the new Ministry of Skill and Entrepreneurship is focused on creating an environment where skilling is an important agenda for the government.

Dhruv Sawhney, CMD, Triveni Engineering and Industries, pointed out that skill development is the bedrock of 'Make in India' and "we have to equip our human capital with the right set of skills to translate our potential and aspirations into reality. A major step towards doing this is developing International linkages.

Vijay Thadani, Co-founder and CEO NIIT Ltd, pointed out that Skill India requires many steps to realize Digital India.

Dr. Naresh Trehan, CMD, Medanta Hospitals, said that the healthcare sector is employing nine million people. The NSDC on Healthcare is working on two programmes "Asha" and "Star Scheme". The focus of Asha is on training and employment of millions "Ashas" in rural India in the healthcare space while "Star" is a programme module for skilling for junior technicians for the healthcare sector.

Rumjhum Chatterjee, Group Managing Director, Feedback Infra Pvt Ltd, said the ratio of schools and universities vis a vis the population is most disproportionate and skewed.
