Highlighting the Swiss Leaks investigation that found former UPA minister Preneet Kaur among the 1,195 Indians with HSBC Geneva bank accounts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said that even the high and the mighty with black money abroad would not be spared.
"High and the mighty, whoever has black money abroad will not be spared and black money will be brought back to India," said BJP spokesperson, Sambit Patra.
"As far as black money is concerned, it is one of the most important issues for the BJP Government. That's the reason as to why after coming into governance, within two and half days, we formed the SIT,which was in fact not even formed in the last two years of the UPA regime. We had treaties signed with Switzerland and other countries and now the names are also coming and finally the investigation and the probe is also on. Definitely, no one will be spared," he added.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has approached Swiss authorities for details of bank accounts maintained by Kaur and members of her family. They are also probing the link between her HSBC Geneva account and trusts and companies - as well as with properties allegedly owned by these entities in London and Dubai.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had in the past claimed that the Congress will be embarrassed once the names of people holding illicit foreign accounts are made public.
