A day after Prince Rogers Nelson aka Prince's demise shocked the world, the procedure of finding out why the music icon died began as soon as possible.

Though a four-hour autopsy that was conducted Friday morning at the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office in Ramsey, Minnesota ended, his cause of death still remains a mystery.

The 'Purple Rain' hit-maker's body will be released to his family, but the results of the exam will not be disclosed until toxicology results come back and this could take several weeks, TMZ.com reported.

A rep for the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office in Minnesota said that they are still collecting the singer's medical records as well as the family medical history to complete their investigation.

It has been reported that the 57-year-old songster was spotted pacing outside a local Walgreens waiting on a prescription on 20 April.

His body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota on April 21.
