Principals and colleges pressurized students to vote for ABVP, says NSUI president

After facing a crushing defeat at the hands of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which won the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections 2014, the president of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) RM John today alleged that a few colleges and principals of the Delhi University forced the students to vote for ABVP.

"It has happened for the first time in Delhi University that the government, the administration put all their machinery to support ABVP candidates, we have also filed complaints with the pertaining officers that in many colleges the principals and admin was openly supporting ABVP candidates and forcing students to vote for them. We will definitely oppose this," said John.

However, accepting the defeat, he added, "We recently won in Punjab and Rajasthan but lost in Delhi. We will introspect what happened, we will continue to work for DU students and hope for better results next year."

NSUI Vice President Amrita Dhawan also criticized the ABVP for misleading students and said that the students misunderstood the Four Year Under-graduate Programme (FYUP), of which the ABVP took advantage.

The result of the DUSU polls, which were dominated by issues like right to accommodation and women security among others, was announced on Saturday.

The ABVP, which is affiliated to the Bharatiya Janata Party, emerged victorious in all the four seats.

The polling for the students union in the Delhi University (DU) took place on Friday.
