South African coach Russell Domingo has backed the new faces coming into the squad for the ODI series against Pakistan, starting from October 30, saying that the squad will benefit from the injection of fresh energy in the form of these new additions.
New players like David Miller, Colin Ingram, Lonwabo Tsotsobe will join the team, which is coming off a comprehensive victory against Pakistan in the drawn Test series, and will be taking a similar approach despite the change in format.
According to Sport24, Domingo said that the coming of new players like Miller, Ingram and Tsotsobe will benefit the ODI squad by bringing in fresh energy, which is a plus as South Africa has always played a certain brand of cricket, adding that the trio have all been doing well in domestic cricket.
However, the report mentioned that the squad would need to lift their performances considerably against a strong Pakistan side, especially after their disappointing 4-1 loss to Sri Lanka in July, with Domingo admitting that they were beaten comprehensively in every department.
Gary Kirsten will join the squad on Wednesday, and brings added value, particularly for the younger inexperienced batsmen who struggled in Sri Lanka, the report added.
