Australian captain Michael Clarke has admitted that it will be their biggest challenge to maintain their spot on top of Test and one-day rankings, which they have regained for the first time in nearly five years.

Despite not having played a Test in the two months since their 2-1 series win in South Africa, Australia has replaced the African nation at the top of the rankings.

According to News.com.au, Clarke, whose memories of that turbulent time are still vivid, said that although it takes a big effort to get to number one in the world in any sport, it is even harder to maintain the place.

However, the captain, who faced the heartbreak of being named the 'worst captain to lead the worst ever Australian team to tour India', said that it is their job and priority as a 'great team' to find a way to stay at the top.

Clarke said to go up from the fifth to the top position in the world is a quick turnaround, of which he is proud and praised the influence of coach Darren Lehmann, although he believes the ultimate achievement is down to the belief and commitment of the players.
