Raghav Lakhanpal rubbishes Saharanpur riots report holding him responsible for violence

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Raghav Lakhanpal today ridiculed report on Saharanpur riots blaming him for inciting violence.

Calling it a political conspiracy, Lakhanpal critcised Samajwadi Party (SP) for purposely trying to divert people's attention and turn by-polls in their favor.

"It's their tactic to divert the attention of the people and to turn by-polls in favor of SP," said Lakhanpal.

"It's funny that the people who caused riots are themselves making reports and blaming others. The victims of Saharanpur riots should be compensated and justice should be delivered," he added.

Earlier today, a five-member state committee report was submitted to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, which sought to probe the reasons for the Saharanpur riots.

The report has blamed the local administration for a lapse in controlling the riots initially. It also mentions BJP MP Raghav Lakhanpal's name, blaming him for allegedly inciting the violence.

Opposition leaders also panned the report saying that the ultimate accountability lay with the state government.
