Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi promised a slew of developments measures for his family's pocket borough of Amethi, after his sister Priyanka Gandhi campaigned in the constituency seeking votes for him.

Talking of development goals for the constituency Gandhi on Saturday mentioned linking the proposed Delhi-Kolkata industrial corridor with Amethi.

He said it would help increase employment opportunity for the youth.

"Now the industrial corridor is under construction connecting Delhi to Kolkata. This would have roads, electricity and water supply and dedicated railway lines. This would generate employment for crores of youths and we would connect this project to Amethi," Rahul said at a public meeting in Amethi.

There is a three-cornered contest in Amethi, as Rahul Gandhi is facing Smriti Irani from BJP and Kumar Vishwas from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) .

In an apparent jibe at the opposition and the hate speeches doing rounds in the political circles in this election season, Rahul Gandhi asserted the Congress party was a uniting power, as compared to the opposition which thrived on 'politics of anger'.

"One is the ideology of uniting people irrespective of religion, connecting people from Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism and Christianity. We have connected women with banks to empower women with financial support and live a prosperous life. We want to do the same to every Indian; we want to unite every Indian. On the other hand we have the politics of anger," said Gandhi.
