In a major mishap, Ranchi's Hatia branch of State Bank of India (SBI) transferred the mid-day meal fund of Rs 100 crore to a private enterprise namely, Bhanu construction company.
Although SBI officials have termed it a mistake on the bank's part, opposition parties have demanded inquiry into the matter.
Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) chief and former chief minister of Jharkhand Babulal Marandi termed the incident a "well planned mistake", and called for inquiry and action.
He also said that the people involved both directly and indirectly in the 'mishap' should be punished.
"The state government should not make any delay in recovering the amount, as it is the government's fund," Marandi added.
