Gujarat won Day Two honours of the ongoing Ranji Trophy final against Mumbai as they finished the day at 291/6 with a lead of 63 runs here at the Holkar Cricket Stadium.

A day completely dominated by Gujarat saw young captain Parthiv Patel leading from the front and scoring a blistering knock of 90 runs to ensure that Mumbai do not stage a comeback on the day.

Starting the day at 2-0, Gujarat lost the openers early as both Samit Gohel (4) and Priyank Panchal (6) went at the team's score of 37. However, Patel took charge of the proceedings and added 69 runs for the third wicket along with Bhargav Merai (45).

The 31-year-old left hander added 120 runs for the fifth-wicket with Manpreet Juneja (77) before Mumbai threatened to make a comeback by picking up three wickets in a gap of 38 runs. However, Chirag Gandhi (17*) and Rush Kalaria (16*) made sure no more damage was done before the stumps.

For Mumbai, Abhishek Nayar was pick of the bowlers as he finished the day with 3-91.

Gujarat, who have made it into the final for the first time since the 1951-52 season, would hope to take their lead by as many as they can on Day 3 and virtually eliminate the chance of losing the match.

On the other hand, Mumbai, which have won the Ranji Trophy 41 times, would want to bowl the opposition out as cheaply as possible.
