In a major relief for e-rickshaw owners and users in the capital, the Delhi government has begun the licensing and registration process of such vehicles.
The state government has started the process under the 13 regional transport authorities of the city.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai also reportedly added that a simplified procedure for e-rickshaws registration has been framed as seven models of new e-rickshaws have been approved by his department.
Once the manufacturers appoint the dealers for the sale of the e-rickshaws, interested persons can purchase a new e-rickshaw and get it registered.
Last month, the Rajya Sabha had passed the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill, which will pave the way for plying of e-rickshaws on the roads of Delhi.
The Bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha on March 3.
