Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday requested Bharatiya Janata Party's chief ministerial candidate for Delhi and former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kiran Bedi to not saffronize the freedom fighters, after Bedi put her party's scarf around the statue of Lala Lajpat Rai in Krishna Nagar.

"I thank the people of Delhi for their tremendous response in our road show yesterday. Also, I would like to request Kiran Bedi to spare our freedom fighters and not saffronize them," said Kejriwal.

Earlier in the day, Bedi paid tribute to Lala Lajpat Rai and also cleaned his statue in Krishna Nagar constituency and put a BJP scarf around the statue.

She also met tea and newspaper sellers in Krishna Nagar and inquired about the kind of issues they were facing.

Bedi is scheduled to file her nomination from Krishna Nagar today. The scrutiny of nominations will take place tomorrow, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 24.

Polling will take place on February 7 and the counting of votes will be taken up on February 10.

Apart from Bedi, several senior leaders will be filing their nomination papers today, including Aam Aadmi Party Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Congress campaign chief Ajay Maken.

While going to file her nomination, Bedi will lead a road show through East Delhi, including the Krishna Nagar constituency, which is a BJP stronghold.

Kejriwal will file his nominations from the New Delhi assembly constituency today after he failed to meet the deadline for filing the nominations yesterday due to his road show.
