The news service Twitter account of Reuters was reportedly hacked on Monday as the account suddenly began tweeting pro-Syrian president messages.
According to Huffington Post, the Thomson Reuters corporate Twitter account, @thomsonreuters posted messages in support of Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad followed by a tweet reading, 'Always via Syrian Electronic Army'.
A Thomson Reuters spokesman acknowledged that the account was hacked and unauthorized individuals posted fabricated tweets of which Thomson Reuters was not the source adding that the account was suspended and was being investigated.
The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) is a group collective of pro-Assad hackers and online activists had earlier hacked an Associated Press Twitter account apart from other news organizations including NPR, BBC and Al Jazeera.
The report said that the AP attacks showed how hackers are using so-called 'phishing' techniques to compromise Twitter accounts belonging to some of the most respected news agencies in the world, renewing questions about the social network's security measures.
