Former Cricket Academy boss Rod Marsh has said that emerging stars in Australia have no excuse to succeed under the nation's ambitious plan to return to the apex of world cricket.
According to News.com.au, on Tuesday, Australian cricket's cognoscenti witnessed the birth of the National Cricket Centre, a 29 million-dollar facility in Brisbane that will serve as a Mecca for the nation's finest prospects.
Marsh, now an Australian selector, said in a metaphor, however, that just because someone owns a Ferrari, it doesn't mean that person would be a good driver.
The multi-level institution is a world away from Marsh's basic Academy set-up, which housed a small gym and living quarters at Adelaide's Henley Beach, the report said.
There is no shortage of high-tech gadgetry, but Marsh cautions no amount of money or resource can substitute the most important traits of a Test cricketer, the report added.
He said that unless the players had that desire, it did not matter what facilities people gave them, adding that hunger is everything and unless someone has the burning ambition within them, they would never make it because cricket is not rocket science.
