Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has said that Stuart Broad's infamous non-walking decision after he was inaccurately given not-out had provoked so much fury among his nation's cricketers because it was something they would expect from their own team.

According to the Guardian, Waugh has provided Stuart Broad with authoritative Australian backing for his refusal to walk at Trent Bridge last summer, although it is unlikely to count for much with the rabid Queensland crowd at the first Test at the Gabba on Thursday.

He said that Broad had done absolutely nothing wrong, adding that he does not hold any grudges at all against him.

Waugh said the challenge for Clarke, whom he regularly advises, and his Australia team is to match England's toughness, according to the report.
