England batsman Joe Root has said that he believes England needs to plan for success in the upcoming 2015 World Cup instead of dwelling on their recent failings.
Yorkshire batsman Root was part of the side whitewashed 5-0 in last winter's Ashes, but, with the World Cup being held in Australia in ten months, he views the upcoming series against Sri Lanka as a launchpad towards challenging for a maiden 50-over crown.
According to the Mirror, Root said that if England continues to 'live in the past' and relieve their 'stinking' time in Australia, they would not be 'going anywhere' as a team, adding that they should focus on the bright side of the winter like their victorious one-day series in West Indies.
Root further said that England now needs to win each and every game as their first priority before the World Cup, adding that there are chances to cement places, make a fresh start and show everyone how good they are as players.
Root, who struck his maiden ODI century in the Caribbean earlier this year despite batting with a shattered right thumb, has been earmarked as the No.4 in the post-Kevin Pietersen era but understands the need for adaptability in the modern game.
